Time to solve this: it is Spielbergs “close encounter of the third kind” from 1977. There Lacombe (aka François Truffaut) shows the distinctive 5-tone sequence using Kodaly’s hand sign “notation”.
I thought this was an easy one… people even run around with T-shirts showing the signs, these days:

Good ideas don’t degrade, just because others had them too.
And: should I really switch to typing next fall, I will considerably slow down. That is for sure :)
